My Rules of Success

  1. Trust God - he has a plan for your life - my story is one of triumphs and failure and I have learnt that when your “friends” have deserted, he is ever-present and will help you through your toughest times.
  2. To succeed you must sometimes fail a thousand times - don’t be afraid to fail- Failure had become my story, once I got my chance, I was able to climb my ladder of success.
  3. Look for an opportunity in circumstance - look at your current situation and ask yourself what can I do now, that can help me in the future?  Stuck in life have no money, the internet is full of resources and opportunities, learn a language or do a course that will improve your overall skillset
  4. Be careful who you tell your dreams and aspiration to - your friends are not your friends, many people around you are dream killers. I have a saying I never let my right hand know what my left hand is doing. People can be so negative and kill your dreams before you even try.
  5. NEVER be satisfied where you are but be always be grateful for where you are coming from
  6. Don’t limit yourself and especially don’t let others limit you
  7. Understand the definition of working hard and smart
  8. First Believe in yourself because no one else will
  9. Be the person that you would want others to be  and treat others you would like to treated -Kindness goes a long way
  10. Be Confident and assertive - walk into a room and truly own it, don't care what others say, people always have something to say

We try to understand, but is that really necessary to become sympathetic or empathetic to one's pain? This is the theme that underscored the recent documentary Self-portrait, based on the life story of the renowned photographer Lena Marie Fossen, who struggled with the eating disorder anorexia nervosa. Lena’s anorexia began at 10 years old, when she decided that she wanted to remain a child and not grow up, why she came to this conclusion was never addressed in the documentary. I think to some extent all of us are nostalgic to our childhood, a time of innocence, being carefree, being protected and no worries at all, perhaps in some way she wanted to hold onto this time. Paul Cézanne born in 1839, Aix-en Provence was a Post-impressionist French painter who became the bridge between impressionism and early modern art such as Cubism. One of his most recognized pieces is ‘The Large Bathers’ that was produced towards the end of his life.  In this painting he did not conform to nineteenth century methods and was applauded by critics for its wide spaces, well –formed figures and use of color (Artble, 2013). Cézanne was able to fulfill his purpose of creating a timeless piece. Two upcoming artists that were highly influenced by the way Cézanne analyzed and pulled apart the subject matter were Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.
